Ocean Fest 2025: Inspiring the Next Generation of Ocean Heroes

On June 6th, Roatan Marine Park (RMP) and ZOLITUR hosted the second annual Ocean Fest, a joyful and educational celebration of World Oceans Day. Held at Gumbalimba Park in West Bay, the event welcomed over 180 students and 50 adults, including teachers from Elfrida Brooks, John Brooks, the SOL Foundation, and a dedicated team of volunteers.

The goal was simple: to inspire young minds to understand and protect our oceans. Students rotated through interactive stations led by organizations working to conserve marine ecosystems, including RMP, ZOLITUR, MARFUND, MarAlliance, BICA, CEM, and the environmental departments of the Port of Roatan and the Municipality of Roatan. Kids engaged in ocean-themed games, explored educational exhibits, and received take-home learning kits all reinforcing the vital role coral reefs and marine life play in our island’s future.

The kids also had fun joining our rangers for a short ride, along with snorkeling and swimming lessons. We’re deeply grateful to the local businesses and partners who made this event possible: Gumbalimba Park, BIP, Fresco, Coleman Bakery, and the Port of Roatan. Special thanks to the Red Cross, Fire Department, and our amazing volunteers, who helped create a safe, welcoming space for all.
