The project has provided an alternative livelihood to a fishing community that previously depended on unsustainable fishing practices and illegal fishing equipment.
Nayeli Aleman Damas has been part of the Rotan Marine Park team since 2019 and is responsible for Eco-Store located in West Bay. She was born in La Ceiba, but since her first month of life she moved and was raised in Roatan. She completed her primary at the Abel Gonzales Caballero School, finishing her High school at the José Santos Guardiola Institute. She is currently studying a degree in Tourism at the Technological University of Honduras, trusting that in the future she will be a profitable young woman for her beloved Island. One of her dreams is to make Roatan a sustainable tourism destination, which respects the environment, both on land and at sea. She is fascinated by cats, pizza, spending time with her family, playing volleyball and watching the sunset while listening to her favorite music.
