RMP EAST END CHAPTER
The Roatan Marine Park East End Chapter was established in late 2017 in an effort to expand our programs across the entire island. The East End Chapter is fully run by a passionate team of volunteers who dedicate their time to protecting Roatan’s reef. Since enacting the Patrol Program on the East Side, which is singlehandedly run by one ranger and one boat, there has been both an increase in fish coverage and successful turtle nests. The 2019 Turtle Nesting Season alone saw 7 nests reported on the East side - a 200% increase from the previous year.
The East End Chapter is also home to the Protect Our Pride Program, which trains locals who otherwise would have made their living fishing, as dive professionals. This program allows them to earn an income while protecting the reef and sharing their knowledge with the rest of the community.
Goals of the East End Chapter for the coming year include the addition of another patrol boat, improving the area’s marine infrastructure, and expanding both Education Outreach and Alternative Livelihood Programs.
HOW TO HELP
The benefits of a Marine Park Chapter on the East End have proven to be successful. We are reaching more people and seeing an increase in marine life. However, we are still struggling with funds that support the longevity of the East End Chapter.
We need YOUR help to continue our programs on the East side.
