Daily effort raises great projects, that’s the Roatan Marine Park for me and since 2018 I am part of this great project
Yuri's work focuses on community outreach and development on Roatan, including the Association of Apicultural Producers Corozal. The program has provided former fishers with an alternative livelihood in beekeeping after fishing regulations in Corozal were put into place.
This year, RMP will further its work in sustainable development in the municipalities of Roatan and José Santos Guardiola. RMP's community development program will focus on combating the accelerated increases in poverty, inequality, and injustice in these areas, while addressing the threat of climate change to our marine ecosystems.
It is important to accomplish meaningful work in Roatan in an inclusive and sustainable method in order to combat each of the phenomena that challenge the development of the island's communities. If communities and organizations both private and public work together, we will have the opportunity to fulfill aspirations of prosperity, wellbeing, development, and preserving the environment. The Roatan Marine Park's largest community development project is the apicultural project in the community of Corozal. The project has provided an alternative livelihood to a fishing community that previously depended on unsustainable fishing practices and illegal fishing equipment. The project aims to incorporate at least 15 families into the production of honey from 80 beehives to date. Through this project, the community in Corozal has been able to organize and legalize what is now the Association of Apicultural Producers Corozal.
